I want to express my thanks to the voters of Senate District 18 for giving me the privilege of serving as your next Colorado State Senator.  The votes are in, the results are gratifying and now the real work begins.  The Primary Election decided this contest, as I face no opponent in November.  There is much to accomplish in the areas of fiscal reform, education, health care, transportation, and protecting our environment. I am energized and ready, and humbled by the responsibility of representing you.

My heartfelt thanks go out to all of my supporters for your tireless efforts on my behalf. I’m grateful for the teamwork that made this victory possible. Many people took signs and planted them in their yards, listed their names on our endorsements, donated financially, wrote letters, made telephone calls, hosted coffees, and attended campaign forums.  Every one of these efforts has made a difference and is greatly appreciated.

We ran a campaign on the issues, and I stayed true to my promise of principled leadership.  Elections are the cornerstone of democracy. Primary elections can be bruising, but, at the end of the day we are all Democrats.  We face real challenges as a party up and down the ticket this fall– passing the SAFE initiative, retaining the State Senate majority, and electing Mark Udall to the US Senate, and Barack Obama to be the next President of the United States.  United, we can realize these goals.

I have relied on so many of you for counsel, advice, friendship and straight talk.  I hope to continue to build on these relationships throughout my term as Senator.  Please pick up the phone, drop me a line, or meet me for coffee. The best way to honor the legacy of Dorothy Rupert and Ron Tupa is to represent you with openness, accessibility and accountability.  Your issues are my issues, and I’m here to be your voice at the Capital.
